One of the original stars of Game of Thrones spoke out about the “annoying” and “really difficult” criticism that the hit HBO show’s series finale still receives. The fantasy show, based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, quickly became a hit for the cable network, with soaring ratings, critical acclaim and multiple awards.
Once the producers and writers ran out of material from the books to adapt, they forged their own path based on the information they knew from Martin. Unfortunately, the quality suffered, and Game of Thrones season 8 ended with very mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister, was recently asked by the Independent about the backlash to the Game of Thrones series finale and acknowledged he wasn’t surprised by the criticism since it’s really difficult to “satisfy everyone.”
The actor insinuated that, while fans are absolutely entitled to their opinions, they went a bit overboard since it’s just a TV show. Coster-Waldau found the backlash to be annoying.
“It was expected. How are you ever gonna make an end that’s gonna satisfy everyone? That’s a very difficult thing. I absolutely think people are entitled to whatever opinion they have, but it’s a television show. Someone told you a story and you didn’t like the ending. It’s really annoying, but…”

Coster-Waldau made a great point that everyone is entitled to their opinions, whether positive, negative or somewhere in between. He’s also right that it’s nearly impossible to satisfy every fan.

His character Jaime and his sister Cersei Lannister died together amid the collapse of the Red Keep. This was one of several character fates criticized by fans as the final season of Game of Thrones was airing.
Coster-Waldau is still hearing about the backlash, even though six years have passed since the series finale aired, which likely explains his annoyance and why he told fans that Game of Thrones is just a TV show.

However, several years have passed since the Game of Thrones series finale, and it’s time to move on instead of continuing to hold on to that anger. At this point, Coster-Waldau’s annoyance at the backlash is justified.
